➢沙塵暴 sandstorm

在氣象預報中，有很多用到 storm 的詞彙，像是 thunderstorm「雷暴或雷雨」、snowstorm「暴風雪」tropical storm「輕度颱風」、hailstorm「雹暴」等等。

➢限水 water rationing

缺水（water shortage）時，為了保障大家在乾旱（drought）時期都有水用，限水是必要手段。rationing 為不可數名詞，意指「定量配給」，除了可與 water搭配使用外，也能加在 power 的後面， 做限電（power rationing）解釋。

➢熱浪 heat wave

heat wave 意指在某段期間內不尋常的酷熱天氣，反義詞是cold wave「寒流」。熱浪來襲時，需注意適時補充水分，避免外出，以免中暑（heatstroke）。

➢中央氣象局 Central Weather Bureau

weather這個字的本意是「天氣」，並由此衍生許多有趙的用法，身體不舒服的時候，除了說Ifeel sick之外，也可以說 I feel under the weather。

➢乾旱 drought

drought與dry這個字息息相闢，因為長期欠缺雨水(rain fall)，導致土壤太乾燥(dry)，無法提供農作物生長所盟的水分，嚴重時可能造成饑荒(famine)。

➢午後雷陣雨 afternoon thundershower

另一種說法是afternoon shower with thunder 。「雷陣雨」thundershower指的是伴隨雷(thunder)和閃電 (lightning)的短暫暴雨 (brief rain storm)。

➢空氣污染 air pollution

pollution 為「汙染」之意，可分為 air pollution「空氣污染」、water pollution 「水污染」、soil pollution「土壤污染」、noise  pollution「噪音污染」等，其動詞型式為 pollute。

➢暴雨 torrential rain

torrential 有「急流的；洶湧的；猛烈的」之意。關於下雨天的用詞，常見的還有 drizzle「毛毛雨」、shower「陣雨」、thundershower/thunderstorm 「雷陣雨」、downpour「傾盆大雨」等等。

⛅談天氣可以這樣說

• The government's weather reports haven't been very accurate recently. 最近中央氣象局的天氣預報好像都不太準。

• They've gotten their typhoon warnings wrong several times. 好幾次關於颱風的預測都不正確。

• They put out a heavy rainfall warning for what turned out to be a sunny day. 發布大雨特報，結果卻是大晴天。

• When they say the weather will be good, it often rains heavily.  說天氣好，卻常常下大雨。

• Maybe it's best to just assume the opposite of what they predict will be true. 也許最好的方法就是相信與氣象局相反的說法就行了。
